The very famous Regency era poem that no doubt inspired this late 19th century pendant begins, “Will you walk into my parlor, said a spider to a fly.” The cautionary tale written for a young audience ends with the unwitting and naive fly being charmed and seduced into becoming the spider’s prey. The moral of the story is, of course, to be leery of strangers and suitors who would ply you with sweet words and promises all the while holding a self-serving or malicious intent. This beautifully wrought web is composed of individual strands of gold wire with a garnet-eyed and diamond-studded fly caught at its center. Russian hallmarks.
